When did orthodontics become more about interior design and brand names than patient care and great, healthy smiles? At Preston Orthodontics, yes, our office is comfortable and, yes, we use the latest technology. But don't choose us for that. Choose Preston Orthodontics because you want a doctor and staff that listen to and care about you. For the great things that come from decades of experience and commitment to the craft.
And for the sparkling results we guarantee. There are a couple schools of thought when running any medical practice. You can schedule more patients per day and spend less time with each, or you can spend more time with each patient and hope that pays off with repeat visits and referrals. We chose the latter model, because we believe that more doctor-patient time is always better.
We want to be your neighborhood family orthodontist. And when we see each other at the ice rink or Abbott's, we want you to smile with confidence knowing you feel and look your best. Born and raised in Penfield, Dr. Janis (Porretti) Preston is Rochester through and through.

ABO Certification
Report
The American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) was founded in 1929.
It is the oldest and most prestigious specialty board in dentistry.
The ABO's aim is to elevate the standards of the practice of orthodontia, to familiarize the public with its aim and ideals, and to protect the public against irresponsible and unqualified practitioners.
Orthodontists are dentists with years of additional training who not only straighten teeth, but effect changes to the facial framework.
A board-certified orthodontist, also known as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics, has been voluntarily examined by his or her peers on the basis of knowledge and clinical skills.

Early Interceptive Treatment
Report
One of the most common questions we are asked is, 'Why do I see young children in braces?' Dr. Preston and the American Association of Orthodontists recommend that children be seen by an orthodontist around age seven.
This is the time when children begin the transition into their permanent teeth and when Dr. Preston can monitor any development concerns that may be present and intercept with treatment, when necessary.
For some, early treatment will lead to significant treatment benefits; for most, the immediate benefit is a parent's peace of mind.

Surgical Orthodontics vs. TADs/Non-Surgical
Report
Orthognathic surgery is the surgical correction of jaw abnormaities when orthodontics alone cannot correct the underlying causes; utilized in treating improper bites (when the jaws don't line up correctly) or other aesthetic concerns.
Should surgery be necessary for your treatment, Dr Preston and an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon will work as a team to achieve the best possible outcome.
With orthodontics, Dr. Preston will place the teeth in the correct position within the jaw bones and the surgeon will properly align the jaws to their ideal position and best relationship to one another to achieve optimal function and aesthetics.

TMJ pain / Jaw Discomfort
Report
Millions of Americans suffer from chronic facial and neck pain as well as severe, recurring headaches.
In some cases, this pain is due to Temporomandibular Disorder, also known as TMD.
Your temporomandibular joints, or TMJs, connect your lower jawbone to your skull.
These joints get a lot of use throughout the day as you speak, chew, swallow, and yawn.
Pain in and around these joints can be unpleasant and may even restrict movement.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, let us (or your general dentist) know at your next appointment.
